SmartCustomer Introduces Consumer Review System Covering More Than 130,000 Businesses

SmartCustomer has introduced a consumer review system that now covers more than 130,000 businesses across multiple categories. The goal is straightforward, to give online shoppers a way to find out what real buyers have experienced before they spend their money.

If you have ever tried to research a company before buying something and ended up going in circles, that is the problem SmartCustomer is trying to solve. Users can type in a business name or website and pull up customer reviews from people who have been there before them. Some reviews are short and to the point. Others go into detail about what went wrong, or right, with a specific order. Shipping delays, surprise charges, refund headaches, unhelpful support reps – all of it tends to come up when buyers are frustrated enough to actually sit down and write something out.

Previous customers have first-hand experience about product quality, billing practices, customer support, delivery timelines, memberships, cancellations, and overall service experience before making a decision. Customer reviews help provide additional context beyond a company’s own marketing materials by giving people access to a range of firsthand experiences.

Home cleaning services are one category where this kind of research has become especially useful. Homeaglow is a cleaning service that has collected a notable number of reviews on SmartCustomer from customers across different states. The Homeaglow reviews on SmartCustomer feature a large variety of reviews from notes on the cleaning itself to customers’ own experience regarding customer service and even what they felt about the fees.

Plenty of people have typed the same thing into a search bar before booking. Is Homeaglow legit? The customer reviews left by past customers on SmartCustomer give a more complete answer to that question than anything you would find on the company’s own website. Reading through them takes a few minutes and gives a much clearer sense of what to expect.

This is the kind of information SmartCustomer was created to surface. The platform does not let businesses pay to remove negative reviews or offer rewards to customers in exchange for leaving positive ones. What gets published is what real customers actually wrote.

“People should be able to find out what a company is really like before they hand over their credit card details,” said Michael Lai, CEO of SmartCustomer. “That is the whole point of this platform. We want buyers to have real information in their hands before they make a choice, not after something has already gone wrong.”

The review system covers a wide range of categories, including clothing, electronics, online marketplaces, dating services, home services, office supplies, and legal services.

SmartCustomer put out a browser extension a while back that works with Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. It saves a few steps. Instead of opening a new tab to look up a company while you are already on their website, the rating just shows up where you are.

Not every review that gets submitted ends up staying on the site. There is a moderation process, and content that does not look like it came from a real customer experience gets flagged. It is one of the reasons the platform has been around for more than 20 years and still gets used by a significant number of people.

SmartCustomer holds an official Google Partner designation and has received recognition from several consumer protection organizations, including the National Science Foundation.

Anyone who wants to share their own experience with a business, good or bad, can do so through SmartCustomer. And anyone researching a company before buying can search through customer reviews going back more than two decades.
